A dialogue between a doctor and a patient Dialogue entre un médecin et un patient
Patient: Hello Doctor! Can you spare me a few minutes?
Le patient : Bonjour docteur ! Pouvez-vous m’accorder quelques minutes ?
Doctor: Certainly! Come in and sit down. Now, what is the matter with you?
Le médecin : Certainement ! Entrez et asseyez-vous. Qu’est-ce qui vous arrive ?
Patient: That is just what I want you to tell me. Le patient : C’est justement ce que je veux que vous me disiez.
Doctor: Well, tell me how you are suffering? Le médecin : Eh bien, dites-moi comment vous souffrez ?
Patient: I seem to be generally out of sorts. I have no appetite for my food, and yet I am always suffering from indigestion.
Le patient : J’ai l’impression de ne pas être dans mon assiette. Je n’ai pas d’appétit pour la nourriture, et pourtant je souffre toujours d’indigestions.
Doctor: Are you troubled with headaches?
Le médecin : Avez-vous des maux de tête ?
Patient: Yes, I am. And what is worse I cannot sleep at night.
Le patient : Oui, j’en ai. Et ce qui est pire, c’est que je ne peux pas dormir la nuit.
Doctor: I see, what is your work?
Le médecin : Je vois. Quel est votre travail ?
Patient: I am a clerk in an office, and have to work long hours.
Le patient : Je suis employé de bureau et je dois travailler de longues heures.
Doctor: What sort of exercise do you take in the evening?
Le médecin : Quel genre d’exercice faites-vous le soir ?
Patient: I am afraid I don't take any. I feel so tired when I get home that I simply want to sit down, or go to bed.
Le patient : Je crains de ne pas en faire : Je crains de n’en faire aucun. Je me sens tellement fatigué lorsque je rentre à la maison que j’ai simplement envie de m’asseoir ou d’aller me coucher.
Doctor: I see. Well, you are evidently run down, and need a rest and change. All your troubles are signs of nervous exhaustion. I will give you a nerve tonic but the main thing is rest. If you do as I say, you will soon be all right.
Le médecin : Je vois. Vous êtes manifestement épuisé et vous avez besoin de repos et de changement. Tous vos problèmes sont des signes d’épuisement nerveux. Je vais vous donner un Tonique nerveux, mais l’essentiel, c’est le repos. Si vous faites ce que je vous dis, vous serez bientôt rétabli.
Patient: Thank you, doctor. I will follow your advice, good night!
Le patient : Merci, docteur. Je suivrai vos conseils. Bonne nuit!
Doctor: Good night! And let me know how you get on.
